Reconciling historical changes in the hydrological cycle over land

چکیده

Abstract The sixth Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment report confirms that global warming drives widespread changes in the terrestrial hydrological cycle, and are regionally diverse. However, reported trends cycle suffer from significant inconsistencies. This is associated with lack of a rigorous observationally-based simultaneous different components cycle. Here, we reconcile these estimates historical by simultaneously analysing all major coupled vegetation greenness for period 1980–2012. We use observationally constrained, conserving closure combined data assimilation approach observationally-driven uncertainty estimates. find robust across more than 50% land area, evapotranspiration (ET) changing most precipitation ( P ) least. many instances unambiguous ET runoff Q without , result broadly consistent “wet gets wetter, but dry does not get drier”. These findings provide important opportunities water resources management climate risk over fraction surface where have previously been uncertain.

Influence of irrigation on land hydrological processes over California

In this study, a regional climate model (RCM) is employed to investigate the effect of irrigation on hydrology over California through implementing a “realistic irrigation” scheme. Our results indicate that the RCMwith a realistic irrigation scheme commonly practiced in California can capture the soil moisture and evapotranspiration (ET) variation very well in comparison with the available in s...

High regional climate sensitivity over continental China constrained by glacial-recent changes in temperature and the hydrological cycle.

The East Asian monsoon is one of Earth's most significant climatic phenomena, and numerous paleoclimate archives have revealed that it exhibits variations on orbital and suborbital time scales. Quantitative constraints on the climate changes associated with these past variations are limited, yet are needed to constrain sensitivity of the region to changes in greenhouse gas levels. Here, we show...

Bank Lending Behaviour over the Business Cycle in Iran

This paper studies bank loans over the business cycles in Iran to determine the role of Iranian banks in stabilizing credit. By estimating the long-run relations using dynamic OLS and fully modified OLS estimators, the findings show that real bank lending is positively related to real GDP in the long-run providing evidences of the pro-cyclicality of bank lending in Iran. Hence, Iranian banking ...
